Miner dies after chopping, stabbing at Noitgedacht
—injured reputed wife hospitalised under police guard
A 34-year-old gold miner died after an altercation with his reputed wife at their camp at Noitgedacht Backdam, Potaro, Region Eight, shortly after midnight yesterday, police said.
The dead man was identified as Ziggy Webster of 111 Miles, Mahdia Airstrip. His 27-year-old reputed wife, a cook of 111 Miles, Mahdia, remains hospitalised in stable condition under police guard.
According to a police statement, preliminary investigations indicate that the two were arguing when Webster allegedly chopped the woman several times about her body with a cutlass. She subsequently allegedly stabbed him in his right buttock with a kitchen knife.
Both were taken to the Mahdia District Hospital, where Webster succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a doctor.
His body was taken to the Campbelltown Mortuary to await a post-mortem examination.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
