Kevin Sinclair Takes Responsibility, Seeks Chance to Return to Cricket

West Indies and Guyana all-rounder Kevin Sinclair has taken responsibility for the actions that disrupted his cricket career and says he is ready to work his way back into the game.

In a statement issued on October 4, Sinclair acknowledged that he had fallen short of the standards expected of him as a professional cricketer and apologised to those who had supported him.

“I accept that I fell short of what was expected of me as a professional cricketer. I take accountability for that. I know I have responsibilities both on and off the field, and I am sorry for letting down those who believed in me.”

Sinclair, 26, has been away from the Guyana Harpy Eagles setup following disciplinary concerns that resulted in his exclusion from the team. Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) selectors said in April that his cricketing ability was not in question but cited a pattern of disciplinary issues dating back to 2024.

The GCB had also previously left Sinclair off the Harpy Eagles’ contracted list for the 2025-26 season, although selectors said he remained eligible for selection if he addressed the issues raised.

Sinclair said the period away from cricket had forced him to reflect on what he had put at risk.

“Being away from cricket has been difficult. This is the game I have loved since childhood and worked hard at throughout my life. It is how I support myself and my family. Cricket is all I know, and losing the opportunity to play made me realise how much I had put at risk.”

He said he had spent the period examining his behaviour and working on areas that needed improvement, while expressing gratitude to Dr. Wil Campbell for his guidance.

“Those conversations have helped me understand myself better and take responsibility for my decisions.”

Sinclair also thanked the Guyana Cricket Board for supporting him and establishing a process to help him work towards a return.

He said that, with the support received, personal work and continued training, he now feels “mentally, emotionally and physically prepared” to return to competitive cricket.

The all-rounder, who has represented the West Indies in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, stressed that his statement was not a demand for selection. The official West Indies profile lists four Tests, seven ODIs and six T20Is among his international appearances.

“I understand that saying this does not mean I am entitled to a place in any team. I have to meet the required standards, earn the trust of others and show through my conduct that I have learned from this experience.”

Sinclair said what he is seeking is an opportunity to compete for a place through his performances and discipline.

“What I am asking for is the opportunity to play cricket again and earn my way back through my performance and discipline.”

He added that representing Guyana remains important to him and that he hopes to put himself in a position to represent the West Indies again.

Sinclair thanked his family, friends and others who supported him during what he described as a difficult period.

“I cannot change what happened, but I can take responsibility for it and make better decisions from here. I love cricket, I believe I still have much to contribute, and I am prepared to continue the necessary work to earn another opportunity.”

His statement comes as Sinclair seeks to rebuild his career after a period in which disciplinary concerns overshadowed his cricketing ability. In September, he was still active in club cricket, representing Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour in the Berbice Cricket Board 50-over competition.

STATEMENT BY KEVIN SINCLAIR
October 4th 2026
I want to take responsibility for the actions that affected my cricket career and speak about my wish to return to the game.
I accept that I fell short of what was expected of me as a professional cricketer. I take accountability for that. I know I have responsibilities both on and off the field, and I am sorry for letting down those who believed in me.
Being away from cricket has been difficult. This is the game I have loved since childhood and worked hard at throughout my life. It is how I support myself and my family. Cricket is all I know, and losing the opportunity to play made me realise how much I had put at risk.
During this period, I have spent time looking honestly at myself and working on the things I needed to change. I am grateful to Dr. Wil Campbell for his guidance through our sessions. Those conversations have helped me understand myself better and take responsibility for my decisions.
I also want to thank the Guyana Cricket Board for the support it has given me and for putting a process in place to help me work towards returning to cricket. The Board has played an important part in helping me get to where I am today. With that support, the work I have done on myself and my continued training, I now feel mentally, emotionally and physically prepared to take the field again.
I understand that saying this does not mean I am entitled to a place in any team. I have to meet the required standards, earn the trust of others and show through my conduct that I have learned from this experience.
What I am asking for is the opportunity to play cricket again and earn my way back through my performance and discipline. Representing Guyana means a great deal to me, and I still hope to put myself in a position to represent the West Indies again.
To my family, friends and everyone who supported me during this difficult time, thank you. Your encouragement helped me keep going.
I cannot change what happened, but I can take responsibility for it and make better decisions from here. I love cricket, I believe I still have much to contribute, and I am prepared to continue the nrcessary work to earn another opportunity. – Kevin Sinclair
