A video has surfaced of the wreck showing public spirited persons assisting Greaves out of the mangled minibus.

Police are yet to provide information about the accident, but Kaieteur News learnt the crash took place during the evening hours while the pick-up was negotiating a turn.

Both vehicles were travelling in the opposite direction when they slammed into each other.

The Brazilian men were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Linden Hospital while Greaves was treated and later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for further medical attention.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear, but according to an acquaintance of one of the victims, one of the Brazilian men was driving the pick-up at the time and was allegedly driving it along the wrong side of the road.

He explained, “Brazilians drive on the right side of the road while Guyanese drive on the left” before adding “This sometimes leads to confusion and lapses when one crosses into the other’s country.”

The man suggested that signboards be installed every mile along the Linden-Linden Route with the “respect the left-hand drive!”

Investigations are ongoing.
