President Dr. Irfaan Ali has pitched Guyana as a unique destination for human resource training and development in the aviation sector.
“We are looking for a partner to help position Guyana as a global hub for training, aviation development, and human resource development,” President Ali said on Tuesday as he addressed a global aviation conference hosted at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal.
The interest in developing this school comes as Guyana forges ahead with plans to expand its aviation sector. Dr. Ali told the gathering of investments being made to develop new infrastructure like airstrips and airports, alongside ventures to bring more airlines to the country.
But with that focus, he said, the need for more trained professionals in the sector is emerging. That’s why Guyana wants international training done locally — not just for Guyanese but for anyone seeking training to fly aircraft, get certified in safety and security measures, or learn about the sector.
And Dr. Ali said his government would build the infrastructure necessary but an international partner is needed to roll out the training programme.
President Ali spoke at the joint ICAO/EASA Third Global Regional Safety Oversight Organisations and Regional Accident and Incident Investigation Organisations Forum for Aviation Safety. For context, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is the global standard-setting body for international civil aviation, while the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is the legally binding regional regulatory agency for the European Union.
