Police inspections focus on discipline, accountability, public trust

October 5, 2026

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has intensified notified inspections across several regional divisions as ongoing efforts to strengthen discipline, accountability, operational readiness and service delivery. Regional Police Division Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) conducted its Divisional Notified Inspection on Saturday, led by Commander Assistant Commissioner Dion Moore, with the exercise focusing on ranks within Number One Sub-Division.
The inspection covered the turnout and bearing of ranks, police buildings and surroundings, storerooms, station records, barracks and the general condition of facilities.
Assistant Commissioner Moore and his administrative team inspected the Enquiries Office, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Traffic Department, male barracks and female barracks at the Bartica Police Station.

During engagements with ranks, Moore addressed public trust and police misconduct, road safety and traffic enforcement, professional appearance and conduct, discipline, and the importance of maintaining clean and orderly working and living environments.
He reminded ranks that their appearance, behaviour and performance directly influence public confidence in the Police Force and encouraged them to carry out their duties with professionalism, respect, integrity and dedication.
Several ranks and Community Policing Group (CPG) members were recognised for their turnout and presentation. Awards were presented to outstanding male and female ranks from CID, General Duty, Traffic and Headquarters, as well as Auxiliary and CPG members and the CPG Coordinator.
Detective Sergeant Sealey was adjudged the Overall Most Outstanding rank for Turnout and Bearing. Moore commended the ranks and stressed that inspections are important for maintaining discipline, identifying areas requiring improvement and strengthening operational preparedness.
Meanwhile, Regional Division 4 ‘A’ (Demerara-Mahaica) also conducted a series of notified inspections across its sub-divisions between October 1 and 2.
On October 1, Deputy Commander Senior Superintendent D. Stephen inspected stations and outposts within Number One Sub-Division and Regional Division 4 ‘A’ Headquarters.

The inspections assessed the condition of police buildings and compounds, station records and diaries, arms and ammunition, mobility, as well as the turnout, deportment and preparedness of ranks.
Several shortcomings were identified and ranks were instructed to address them promptly. Stephen also emphasised professionalism, discipline, punctuality and courtesy in interactions with members of the public.
On October 2, Stephen, accompanied by Superintendent J. Tappin, continued inspections in Number Two and Number Three Sub-Divisions and at Impact Base.
The overall turnout and deportment of ranks were described as commendable, while records were generally properly maintained and several buildings and compounds were found to be clean and orderly.
Ranks were reminded of the importance of professional development, integrity, accountability, effective supervision and adherence to Force policies and procedures.
With Christmas policing preparations underway, ranks were also urged to remain vigilant and proactive, increase police visibility and conduct regular community walkabouts to strengthen relationships with residents and build public confidence.
In Regional Police Division Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), a notified inspection was conducted at the Mahdia Police Station on October 1 by the Deputy Commander in the presence of ranks and members of the Administrative Team.

The welfare, health and physical fitness of ranks, self-development, professional growth and community engagement were also discussed. Ranks were encouraged to strengthen outreach activities and weekly youth group programmes across the division.
