Twenty-six-year-old Joshua James of 14 Miles, Arakaka Backdam, North West District (NWD), was on Friday charged and remanded to prison for the murder of his uncle Morvin George. James was arrested on Tuesday at 14 Miles, Arakaka, NWD, and virtually appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Port Kaituma Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

He was not required to plead to the indictment and was remanded to prison until November 10, 2026.

It was reported that the dead man and his nephew were involved in an argument that escalated into a confrontation, during which the suspect armed himself with a piece of wood and dealt George several blows to his body, rendering him motionless. George was pronounced dead at the scene while the suspect was subsequently apprehended and taken into police custody. A cutlass and the piece of wood suspected to have been used in the fatal encounter were recovered at the scene.
