A 17-year-old Linden Technical Institute student was shot dead, allegedly by her boyfriend, who then fatally shot himself at Block 22 Squatting Area, Wismar, Linden, this afternoon.

According to police reports, the deceased have been identified as Toisha Andrew, of Block 22 Squatting Area, and Anthony Kellon Malachi Cato, 21, a worker under the government’s ten-day employment programme, of Phase Three, Murphy Street, Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

According to preliminary information, Andrew had just returned home from school at around 4.30 pm when Cato approached her armed with a handgun. He allegedly discharged a round, striking her in the forehead and causing her to fall to the ground. Cato then reportedly shot himself and fell to the ground, where he remained motionless.

Andrew was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Cato’s body remained at the scene, with a handgun lying nearby.

Police were processing the scene as investigations continued.
