(Kaieteur News) – A spectacular, unbeaten 186 from West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Tevin Imlach single-handedly dismantled the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and booked Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) a spot in the final of the Dave’s West Indian Inc. 1st Division 50-over competition.
His masterful ton on home turf anchored an emphatic 115-run semifinal victory.
DCC’s road to the final initially looked bleak. After winning the toss and electing to field, GPF’s bowling attack tore through the home side’s top order, leaving DCC reeling at a precarious 50 for 4 in the 10th over.
What followed was an absolute master class in counter-attacking cricket. Imlach joined forces with West Indies Under-19 star Jonathan Van Lange to orchestrate a game-changing 201-run fifth-wicket partnership.
Van Lange played a brilliant supporting role, hammering a fluent 84 off 82 balls, including 5 fours and 6 sixes. With Van Lange holding down the other end, Imlach went on an absolute rampage. He butchered the Police attack to blast 186 not out from just 115 deliveries, punctuating his explosive innings with 16 boundaries and 11 towering sixes.
The fierce mid-innings onslaught propelled DCC to a mammoth 344 for 9 in their allotted 45 overs. Kemol Savory was the lone bright spot for the lawmen, finishing with figures of 2 for 49.
Faced with a mountainous chase of 345, the scoreboard pressure proved too heavy for GPF. Despite a fighting 44 from Savory and a blistering, 33-ball 67 from Dwayne Dick (6 fours, 6 sixes), the Police batting lineup collapsed under the strain.
DCC’s bowling unit refused to let up, delivering a disciplined, collective performance to stifle any hopes of a miracle. National players Jaden Dowlin, Sachin Singh, Ashmead Nedd alongside a returning Van Lange claimed two wickets apiece to bundle Police out for 229 in 32.5 overs, comfortably sealing DCC’s ticket to the championship final.
