Thousands of fans turned out on Sunday for the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMR&SC) Berbice Invasion drag race meet, representing one of the largest fan turnouts of any event outside the South Dakota Circuit.

The event marked the first time the Rose Hall Canje venue hosted time bracket drag racing in GMR&SC’s modern history.

GMR&SC President Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin said, “We want to thank all the fans, spectators, and racers who turned out for our Berbice Invasion. The support and love the ancient county gave the GMR&SC has left me speechless; the team and I were heartened by the enthusiasm for the event.”

He added: “To see so many fans and racers and their families turn out to the venue tells us that Berbice is definitely going to be something we do on a yearly basis moving forward. All in all, we had a great day of racing across all classes, and while there may have been a few setbacks, we overcame them and put on a show. A big thank you to all again.”

Meanwhile, there were several winners across seven car classes, a female category and three motorcycle classes, with Imran Mohamed Ally’s Tesla Plaid leading the nine-second bracket.

Ally, driving car number 1998, won the nine-second class, while Paramdeo Seeram took the 11-second category in his Toyota Allion 4WD, car number 216.

The other car class winners were Afzal Maiku in a Toyota Corolla Fielder Wagon (#289) in the 16-second class, Ramesh Persaud in a Toyota Corolla Fielder Wagon (#484) in the 15-second class, and Romaine Henry in a Toyota Celica (#81) in the 14-second class.

Roshandin won the 13-second class in his Mitsubishi Evolution X (#30), while Sayyad Ramcharran took the 12-second category in a Toyota Corolla EE90 (#137).

Ashley Persaud-Jewanram claimed the female class in her Toyota GT-86, car number 162.

In the motorcycle categories, Shem Chattersingh won the 600cc Superbike class on a Suzuki GSX-R (#1011), while Stephon Vishmon took the 1000cc Superbike category on a BMW 1000 RR (#342).

Steven Chung won the 125cc–212cc motorcycle class on bike number 251.
