(Kaieteur News) – The cause of death of 25-year-old farmer Marinda Ernest, whose body was exhumed from her parents’ yard in Amakokopai Village, Upper Mazaruni River, remains undetermined following a post-mortem examination conducted on Thursday.

Ernest’s body was examined by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh after it was exhumed from the grave where she had been buried.

According to police, Dr. Singh concluded that the cause of death could not be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition.

Following the examination, Ernest’s body was handed over to relatives for burial.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are continuing.

Ernest, a farmer of Amakokopai Village, was found dead along a trail at Philipai Village, Region Seven on August 28, 2026.

Police had said that she was believed to have been killed sometime between 19:00 and 20:00hrs on that day.

At the time, police were questioning her 23-year-old reputed husband, who told investigators that he and Ernest had been walking home through a trail after attending a self-help exercise at a farm known as Kayap.

According to the man, their home was approximately an hour’s walk from the farm. He reportedly told police that he briefly entered the bushes along the trail and, upon returning, could not find Ernest.

He said he proceeded home, believing that she had walked ahead of him, but she was not there when he arrived.

Police said the man subsequently returned to the trail and began searching for her.

He reportedly later found Ernest dead and naked among bushes near a stream and informed villagers.

The matter was reported to police the following day.

An examination of Ernest’s body at the time reportedly revealed what appeared to be a puncture wound below the left breast, another puncture wound to the back, and abrasions to her back and left leg.

With the post-mortem examination now unable to establish a cause of death because of the condition of the remains, investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding Ernest’s death.
