(Kaieteur News) – A 20-year-old Police Constable attached to Regional Police Division #2 has been charged with three traffic offences and granted bail totalling $90,000.

Elroy Lawrie was charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02; using an uninsured motor vehicle, contrary to Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Insurance (Third Party Risks) Act, Chapter 51:03; and using an uncertified motor vehicle, contrary to Section 15 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.

The charges stem from an incident on Monday, October 5, 2026, on the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast. Lawrie appeared on Wednesday, October 7, before Magistrate Caressa Henry at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read to him. He pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

He was granted $40,000 bail on the unlicensed-driver charge, $25,000 for the uninsured-motor-vehicle charge and another $25,000 for the uncertified-motor-vehicle charge, bringing the total bail to $90,000. The matter was adjourned to November 3, 2026.
