Commission of Inquiry continues site visits ahead of October 14 hearings
The five members of the Commission of Inquiry into the MV Barima tragedy visited two dry docks on the East Bank Demerara on Friday morning, October 9, as part of their ongoing work to gather information relevant to the inquiry.
Both facilities were associated with the maintenance and repair of the MV Barima at various times before July 18, 2026. The visits provided an opportunity for commissioners to familiarise themselves with the sites ahead of the commencement of oral hearings on October 14.

Friday’s visits followed inspections on Thursday, October 8, at the Transport and Harbours Department’s Goods Wharf in Kingston, Georgetown, and visits to the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) and the Transport and Harbours Department.
These site visits form part of the Commission’s preliminary fact-finding work, allowing members to gain a clearer understanding of facilities and operations relevant to its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the MV Barima tragedy.
