(Kaieteur News) – An accident involving two cars and a motorcycle on the Manchester Public Road, Corentyne over the weekend has left a Corentyne father of two dead.
Chatram Bridgbasie, a 27-year-old resident of Lot 59 Lesbeholden North, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, was killed after his motorcycle collided into two cars, police in the Region confirmed.
In a release, the police said the fatal accident occurred on Friday at about 19:45hrs on Manchester Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, involving motorcar # PAH 1597, owned and driven by a 29-year- old male of Whim Village, Corentyne, Berbice, who is also a member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF); motorcar # PAN 7003, owned and driven by a 20-year-old male of Fyrish Village, Corentyne, Berbice and a member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), and motorcycle # CH 298, owned and driven by Bridgbasie.
Devindra Satram, 33, also of Blackbush polder, was his pillion rider.
Initial investigations revealed that motorcar # PAN 7003 was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Manchester Public Road reportedly at a normal rate of speed, while Bridgbasie and Satram were journeying in the same direction, allegedly at a fast rate of speed. According to police, neither man on the motorcycle was wearing safety helmets, and the rider was unlicensed.
While attempting to overtake motor car # PAN 7003, Bridgbasie lost control in the process and collided with the right rear portion of the motorcar.
As a result of the collision, his motorcycle then crashed into the right-side portion of the other car, which was proceeding in the opposite direction.
Both Bridgbasie and Satram consequently fell onto the road surface, where they received injuries about their bodies. They were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital for medical attention.
They were both seen and examined by a doctor on duty, who pronounced Bridgbasie dead on arrival. His body was subsequently taken to a Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Satram was treated for lacerations about his body. He was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further medical treatment. His condition is listed as stable.
Both drivers of the two cars were escorted to Whim Police Station, where breathalyser tests were conducted, with both tests recording readings of 0%. They are in custody, assisting with the investigation.
Kavita Sookram, Bridgbasie’s mother-in-law, said she was heading home from work when some of her friends stopped her on the way and asked her if she had heard any news, to which she responded in the negative.
“Them seh how my son-in-law get accident…then I quarrel and fight up and so. Then she showed me a picture and I ask if he dead mek they cover he, she said yes.
