Judy Winter-Smith last week became the first Wapichan Attorney at Law, from Aishalton Village, South Rupununi to be accepted to the Bar.

A release from the South Rupununi District Council said that Judy’s achievement is “far more than a personal milestone, it is a historic moment for the Wapichan people, the South Rupununi, and Indigenous communities across Guyana. She has broken a barrier and opened a door that others can now walk through”.

It added “Judy, may your knowledge, courage, and commitment to justice continue to inspire the next generation. You are not walking this path alone, you carry with you the hopes and pride of an entire people”.
