Franklyn Brisport-Luke delivered another masterclass in Santiago as Guyana’s powerlifters continued their golden run at the 2026 South American Powerlifting Championships.
Following his triumph in the equipped segment on opening day, the veteran athlete delivered another commanding performance on Thursday at the Estadio Nacional, capturing gold in the classic format.
Brisport-Luke, the sole member of the Guyanese contingent pulling double duty across both the equipped and classic disciplines, raised his game, improving his bench press and deadlift figures from earlier in the week.
He matched his 125kg squat before pushing his bench press to 77.5kg (up from 72.5kg) and pulling a 157.5kg deadlift (up 2.5kg on his equipped attempt) to post a winning total of 360kg.

His victory lifted Guyana’s overall medal haul to six—comprising three gold, two silver, and one bronze—as the team maintained a podium presence across every day of competition contested so far.
Elsewhere on day five, international debutant Meshach Alexander produced an encouraging display in the 83kg Junior category.
Despite placing eighth in a stacked field, Alexander marked his maiden international appearance by posting a solid 572.5kg total, featuring a 212.5kg squat, 117.5kg bench press, and a 245kg deadlift.
Guyana’s campaign in Chile is set to reach a crescendo heading into the weekend, with nine more lifters scheduled to hit the platform across Friday and Saturday in search of further silverware.
