(Kaieteur News) – The 4R Lioness cricket team emerged as the 2026 Prime Minister’s Softball Cup female champions after defeating Bacchus X1 in the 15-over final on Sunday at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The champions produced a composed run chase to secure the title, reaching their target of 76 with 23 balls to spare after losing three wickets.
Sherry-Ann Frazer anchored the successful pursuit with a well-made 35, earning the Player-of-the-Match award for her decisive contribution with the bat.
The victory also earned 4R Lioness $400,000 and the championship trophy, while Bacchus X1 received $200,000 and a trophy for their efforts.
The prizes were presented by Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, who is also the tournament’s patron.
In his remarks, Phillips congratulated 4R Lioness on their triumph while encouraging Bacchus X1 to return stronger in the next edition.
The Prime Minister also promised an expanded tournament in 2027, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the softball cricket extravaganza staged under the auspices of the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc. in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister.
The female competition featured six teams, which entered the knockout phase last Thursday, setting the stage for a tightly contested battle for the championship.
Defending champions Supreme Stars were among the teams chasing another title but saw their campaign end at the semi-final stage, where they were eliminated by eventual champions 4R Lioness.
With their decisive final victory, 4R Lioness capped a strong run through the knockout competition and added their name to the growing list of champions in the Prime Minister’s Softball Cup.
