Veteran strongman Frank Tucker will lead Guyana’s five-member team into battle as the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Masters Championships get underway in Reno, Nevada.
Running from October 15 to 24, the global competition begins Thursday, with 74-year-old Tucker making his historic debut at the world championships.
Tucker will feature in both the Classic and Equipped segments, stepping onto the platform in the M4 93kg category against two American competitors.
The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) travels to Nevada after a triumphant campaign at the South American Powerlifting Championships in Santiago, Chile, where a 17-member contingent won 21 medals, including six gold, ten silver, and five bronze.
Guyana’s five-person roster will carry that momentum into a fiercely contested tournament featuring 507 male and female lifters from 39 countries.
The squad boasts a powerful mix of seasoned veterans and newly minted masters competitors.
USA-based strongman Naranjan Singh, who celebrates his 83rd birthday on October 20, will contest the M4 83kg division next week in what marks his third world championship appearance.
Meanwhile, Gordon Edwin Spencer enters the M3 93kg Equipped category to face opponents from the USA, Finland, and Estonia.
Rounding out the touring party is Federation General Secretary Roger Rogers, who lines up in a competitive M2 120kg field featuring athletes from the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Sweden, and France, as well as 40-year-old Tremel Clarke.
Following a promising masters debut at Fesupo in Chile, Clarke will take on the M1 105kg class against a broad international field spanning the Americas, Europe, and New Zealand. (Modified Press Release)
