(Kaieteur News) – Dem Boys seh Guyana got a new national sport. It ain’t cricket. It ain’t football. It is going to a meeting you don’t trust, then complaining that you don’t trust the meeting.
This is what got Dem Boys scratching dem head over the meeting between the Commission of Inquiry into the sinking of the M.V. Barima and the families of those who died.
If you genuinely believe the Commission cannot be trusted, that it is a charade, or that the people sitting on it cannot possibly find the truth, Dem Boys got one simple question: Why you deh there?
This was not a political rally. It was not a press conference. And it certainly was not a meeting designed to give somebody another stage to announce how much they distrust the Commission. It was a meeting with families who lost loved ones. People went there because somebody they love never came home. They went because they want answers. They want to know what happened, who was responsible and what can be done to prevent another tragedy?
So if somebody already decided that the Commission is worthless, what exactly they doing sitting down with the Commission and those grieving families?
Maybe they believe in the new Guyanese principle: “I don’t trust you, but I still want to attend your meeting.” That is like going to church every Sunday to tell everybody you don’t believe in God. If you have no confidence in the Commission, there are plenty things you can do. Hold a press conference. Issue a statement. Write a letter. Go on Facebook and tell the whole country.
But why turn up to a meeting involving grieving families?
Dem Boys seh the families deserve better.
You can distrust the Commission. You can criticise it. You can challenge its work. But if you have already decided that nothing it does can produce a credible answer, Dem Boys got only one thing left to say:
Then why you deh there? This meeting was for the families. Not for you.
Talk half. Leff half.
