(Kaieteur News) – Unrest erupted in Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, on Tuesday evening, days after the arrest of the wife and brother of US-sanctioned Mark Cromwell, who has been named in an investigation into the disappearance of two Surinamese nationals who vanished after entering Guyana.

The missing men have been identified as 28-year-old Van Dalen Lorenzo and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo. According to a missing person’s report issued by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the two were last seen on August 28 exiting a white Toyota Vitz in Clarasluis (Clara Sluice), Nickerie, Suriname, before boarding a boat bound for Guyana.

While initial police searches and interviews reportedly yielded no direct leads on their whereabouts, Kaieteur News received information that the men arrived safely in Guyana and entered a black station-wagon-type taxi.

Further reports indicate that the men were later seen alive leaving in a white car registered to Cromwell’s wife. However, the police have not publicly released evidence confirming this information.

Neither Lorenzo nor Danillo has been seen or heard from since.

Tensions escalated on Tuesday when police officers attempted to execute a search warrant at Cromwell’s home but were reportedly prevented from doing so by persons at the scene.

Angry residents subsequently blocked roads with burning debris, while a truck was reportedly set on fire.

When law enforcement officers attempted to extinguish the fires, which threatened nearby Guyana Power and Light (GPL) utility poles, they were met with hostile reactions from persons gathered at the scene.

Residents reportedly extinguished some of the fires before relighting others at different locations. Up to press time, three separate fires had been lit, while local men were seen using buckets of water in an effort to douse the flames.

Despite the unrest, the GPF did not issue a formal statement on the developments up to press time.

The police continue to urge anyone with information that could assist in locating Lorenzo and Danillo to contact 911, 227-1611, 268-2328, 268-2329, 226-3411, 225-8196, 227-1159, or the nearest police station.
