Police have arrested a businessman following the discovery of suspected cannabis and cocaine at Port Kaituma, while an 18-year-old is in custody after a pistol and ammunition were found in Georgetown. The arrests were made on Monday.

At High Wine Crack, Port Kaituma, police searched a premises in the presence of a 65-year-old businessman and found two plastic bags in a bedroom. In the second incident, police on mobile patrol heard what they suspected was a gunshot near Robb and Bourda streets at about 11.30 pm. They said they saw a man running along Bourda Street, pursued him and found a Glock 19 pistol and 13 matching live rounds during a search.

The 18-year-old, of Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, remains in custody. Police said investigations into both matters are continuing.
