Guyana’s premier karting stars are heading to the iconic South Dakota Circuit on November 14 and 15 for the second round of the Need for Speed Karting Championship, with a historic multi-million dollar prize purse on the line.
Organised by Jumbo Jet Events, the action-packed weekend will see drivers compete for a record-breaking overall purse of more than GYD$17 million across multiple categories, marking an unprecedented milestone for karting in Guyana.
The headline LO206 Briggs & Stratton Light division boasts a staggering GYD$4 million (USD$20,000) winner’s prize, establishing it as one of the richest karting purses ever contested locally.
Several other divisions carry a GYD$2 million (USD$10,000) winner’s cheque, while prizes across the remaining categories range from GYD$1 million to GYD$1.5 million.
Veteran racers will also share the spotlight in a dedicated Pro Drivers category for competitors aged 50 and over, with the winner taking home a GYD$2 million top prize.
Promoters have promised fans a world-class viewing experience and a traditional racing atmosphere as the championship shifts to the country’s flagship motorsport venue.
A spokesperson for Jumbo Jet Events confirmed that extensive work has gone into preparing for the showcase, stating that supporters have become accustomed to a brand of sport that exceeds traditional standards and round two will be no different.
A broad spectrum of disciplines will feature across the weekend, with action spanning the LO206 Briggs & Stratton Light, Heavy, Junior, and Cadet classes, alongside the Honda GX200, IAME 125cc, LO206 Rookie Over-35, LO206 Female, Supermoto Senior, and Supermoto Junior divisions.
Strict tyre regulations have also been instituted to ensure competitive parity, with most categories utilising MG Red tyres, while the IAME 125cc fleet will race on MG Yellow tyres.
The race weekend gets underway on Saturday, November 14, with official qualifying for all classes, before Sunday’s main race day kicks off at 10:00 a.m.
The high-stakes event receives key support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport alongside corporate sponsors Jumbo Jet, XCMG, and Synotruc. (Modified Press Release)
